SCHEDULE
Our regular Sunday Services are at 10:00 A.M. at the church and streamed on Facebook Service Leaders: Sept. 8: In-Gathering Rev. Cynthia Chatis |
Worship ServicesOur services are a time to connect with one another and rekindle our understanding of the value of actively pursuing a spiritual path. We see worship as a time to focus on love, compassion, humility, and forgiveness as key elements in supporting and encouraging one another in our spiritual quest. For us, worship is a time of community: sharing joys and concerns. It is a time of reflection: through prayer and quiet meditation. It is a time of contemplation, exploration and education; through the sharing that comes from sermons, testimonials and community comments. And it is a time of joy as we listen to music and raise our voices in song.
Our services offer education in the faith traditions of the world. They may touch on current or historical events that are pertinent to our daily lives. They tell stories and they challenge the congregation to deepen their understanding of their own pursuit of the spirit. It is our hope that our services are provocative, while at the same time challenging the congregation to frame everything within whatever spiritual context helps them integrate deeper meaning into their lives. As a congregation that honors all spiritual paths, we believe that our services should be an open forum through which each person can find support and understanding for what they believe, and how they choose to live an ethical and principled life. These beliefs are integrated in everything that we do and in everything that we seek to be as an open and welcoming congregation. Vespers and Special ServicesOn occasion, we offer special services and vespers oriented toward the specific faith needs of the congregation. We offer communion services once or twice a year. We offer chanting and meditation experiences. We have a very active group of musicians who regularly bring their talents to services that fall around holidays and special occasions. We offer a Christmas Eve service and a celebratory service at Easter. Our congregation is invited to offer vespers services should they choose.
Other Spiritual ActivitiesOur congregation reads multiple books a year and holds both daytime and evening (potluck) discussions about the content. In addition, we offer occasional community dinners or fellowship events in our multi-purpose room. Every summer, though we are closed for the months of July and August, we hold a church picnic, generally hosted by a member who lives lakeside at Pawtuckaway Lake.
